Here we give you 5 recommendations for reading the nutritional label.
1. Identify what the serving size is.
2. Read ingredient list:
- They are ordered from what has the greatest weight or quantity per serving to the least.
- If the first ingredient is sugar, it means that it is the ingredient that the product contains the most.
- The fewer ingredients listed, the better.
3. Regarding carbohydrates:
- In the nutritional table, they are divided into amounts of fiber and sugar. What remains of the total are starches.
- Look for products with >3g of fiber and <7g of sugar.
4. Regarding proteins:
- A product that is expected to contain protein must have at least 5g of it.
5. Regarding fats:
- Avoid trans fats as much as possible
- No more than 5g of saturated fat per product.
- Names of healthy fats: Olive oil, Coconut oil, Avocado oil, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats
